Inzaghi has subbed off Bastoni in the first half before due to a yellow card. I think that if today were under normal circumstances he might have. However, the whole purpose of Gags even being on the pitch was rotation. If you sub him off after 30 minutes it kind of defeats the purpose, so he basically gambled he could at least make it to half or 60 minutes (in reality he probably intended to play him 90).

It’s inexcusable for a player of Gags’ experience to do what he did today. Regardless of his quality, an experienced player shouldn’t get two yellows in the first half. Also he was lucky he didn’t get the 2nd yellow sooner, the referee gave him a pass on another yellow card offense because the first one was soft and he didn’t want to affect the game so early. It’s to the point now where any time he plays now there is a moment he detrimentally impacts the team. He literally shouldn’t touch the field again this season unless we have a significant lead.

So Inzaghi decided to gas out Barella Lukaku Bastoni, forcing them to cover extra kilometers in 10 vs 11 for the rest of the match. Sure, it's better to push to for must-win in Atalanta than park the bus and rest two matches before CL final. Of course, let's continue with 5-men midfield when one is injured and others need rotation.

What a genius :einstein:

Well Barella was playing because of the Mkhi injury. If Mkhi was fit then Brozo probably plays instead. Lukaku is a second team player for Inzaghi right now. One of Bastoni or Acerbi always has to play because they are our only left footed CBs. That’s an issue with the way the squad is built. It was simply Acerbi’s time to rest.

And to be fair to Inzaghi his first subs off were Bastoni and Barella who are the only first team players outside of Onana that started today.

This is not fair. Inzaghi couldn't have known that Gagliardini will get a red so early. Barella was taken out in the second half, Bastoni too. I don't think there is a problem with Lukaku staying for the whole match, as he didn't play so many minutes anyway. Inzaghi's second subs were Dimarco and Dumfries, where he tried to refresh the wings and potentially to score a goal. We saw that it worked well in some extent. The problem was that the whole team was too exhausted to hold the result. Asllani was just walking after the 60 minutes and he couldn't mark properly Napoli's players.
If N5 didn't get a second yellow, he would have been subbed on the halftime by Brozo. Most probably Lautaro would have come in for Correa as well, and we would have won it. The red card decided the game, not Inzaghi. His idea and substitutes were good.

He should have known, dude. Gags was literally begging for a second yellow. Like 99% of the fans last night.

Jesus 4-5 Napoli players surrounded the ref TWICE within 10 minutes before. How come did the coach not see??

This is his only mistake, that he decided to wait couple of minutes more, instead to take him out immediately. Everything else was.on spot by Inzaghi.

And about holding the result, Di Lorenzo scored a true golazo, it's not like the team failed there in any particular way. It's just what can happen sometimes. Opponent pulls off some magic.

Generally, people have complained about Inzaghi taking players off after yellow and now suddenly he should have done it? I'm sure Inzaghi would have taken Gags off at half time or at 60mins as @thatdude pointed out. The whole purpose of using him was the placeholder role, to eat minutes from our other mids.

Gagliardini is the biggest reason for this fuck up, two yellows in 40 mins? You can't do that shit at this level.

Imagine beeing angry with your manager for rotating when we have 4 games left of which two are finals and we have a thin as shit squad...
It’s not about rotating, but about how did he rotate. Who never saw Gag will be sent off after 10 mins?

At such high level of European football, anyone who is free near the box can execute that shot. That is why coach always push a player to make his job harder & block part of the angle. Anguissa 1-0 was the same shit.

And you know the reason there was empty...

Yes, we played with man-disadvantage. We don't see such goals too often, it's not like Di Lorenzo is a big threat and shouldn't be allowed to take any shots ever on the edge of the box. There's always someone free when you play man-disadvantage. I don't get what are you trying to imply.

My point was us conceding that goal was not defensive catastrophe by the team. We were defending, it's 85th minute or something and the team had been playing man-disadvantage for almost an hour. @ADRossi's downgrading way of talking about bottling is what catched my attention. Reducing that goal to Inter bottling is just way off in my mind.

My point is that Gags & Inzaghi slow reaction already throw our match away around the 40' mark. It was not a blunder if you crop that shot alone and call that rare wonder, nobody's fault there. I am arguing that such result is inevitable, had Lorenzo not made that shot it could be anybody.

This decision alone ends up with costing us more gas than we should. AND the points is still zero, so it was a failure, period. Milan have just done the same mistakes with damaging the momentum for the sake of "resting" players and end up losing all. We have sacrificed precious Serie A points - for the club survival - for a chance of an useless "title" which is worth an Europa League ticket at its best.

thing is, its stupid but it all come sdown to the juve decisions. If they get -9, we need basically 1? point from 3 games to be sure of being in the CL next season. But we cant know if that will happen or not yet, so we need to consider Milan the rival, and yesterday was a big fuck up.

As I said before I perfectly understand Inzaghi's train of thought here. He was willing to waste this match, by not putting all the resources trying to get a result from this match. Instead he will go all in for the remaining 3 games. And the main thing is this week's time where we have 3 games (Napoli, Fiorentina, Atalanta). Inzaghi decided to pick the last two games as the main focus.

Losing Napoli away is not a big fuckup, come on. Even with our best lineup we could have lost it. Spalletti went with his full lineup, clearly motivated to win this match. They're the Scudetto winners, over 20 points above us. You guys make it sound like if we just didn't start Gagliardini, it would have been at least 1 point for us for certain.

That same team got butchered by Milan left and right with their best lineup, is too hard to win? Sorry Napoli current form is not that good anymore, check it out mate.
He could play yesterday lineup versus Fio, I could not care less. Nobody but Inter fans are going to remember that mickey mouse cup outside Italy.

Throwing Napoli for Fio is ok but fighting dead or alive vs Atalanta 2 days after our first XI has 90'/120' is smart?!? The more intense towards the City clash also means less rest?!? Sorry, the way of your (guys) prioritization is just weird which I could never get.

Yes, we are not on the same boat, I've noticed that.
