Nah. If it was Skriniar he would be bashed about his performance and people would even argue Conte was right to put him on the market. But it was De Vrij, Serie A best cb, so all is good.

I don't blame him for his performance. In a back 3 he is only suited to play in the middle. His performance was just a confirmation it's a difficult task for a cb to play as a side defender in a back 3.

I think this just proves criticism of Skriniar isn't fair, he didn't play central and for the first time I've seen, he had a horrible game. Reason we aren't talking about it is because he has been absoltuely solid for us, serie a defender of the year, you can't go OTT and blame/criticise this guy.

I guess these world class players can only play central, I also guess this is why Conte has/is signing every cheap/shit/mediocre full back/wing back he can as it must be easier for them to adapt to the CB/RB CB/LB position Conte plays.

TBH noone besides Bastoni have been succesful as side CB in Conte's system.

I have never liked this 3 men defence. IMO it leaves the defence too exposed. It is too easy to play the ball behind that defence line.

Id like to see skriniar play in his position and see how it is. Skriniar was playing on the left side for the first few months I believe and then moved to right side; I dont remember him ever being in the center. People talked shit about skriniar being a 15m defender and wanted his head in favor of milenkovic, its only fair if skriniar gets to try to play in that position and see if he's better than de vrij.

I still like de vrij though especially given the fact that he came for free and has been a massive defensive force for us.

Yeah. First Gervinho goal was a perfect example of placing 3-men defence CB being slotted to side-CB role. De Vrij was positioned completely centrally, at least related to Gervinho's position. Hakimi was nowhere near. He had no possibility to recover from that position when the aerial through ball left the feet of the Parma player.
