Took a day off work sick today, gave me some unexpected free time so I played some more PES.
It is a lot more tolerable depending on my patience when I play. But I maintain that the AI inherently wears down that patience and I reaffirm that everything I said in my previous post is absolutely true:
- no matter how good your speed or physical contact is, against superstar and top player difficulty the AI will almost always dispossess you if you come within a 2m radius.
- the AI relies way, way too much on unpredictable and impossible long through passes. Now that I'm expecting this, I sit back a lot more and this certainly helps, but it is still alarming how you can lose the ball while attacking the opponents third and be chasing down a 1v1 in a matter of seconds. I suppose this is completely possible in real football too, but not in this manner. No matter how 'logically' you close down space, at times it feels like you're playing against fucking eleven Xavi's who can see into the future.
Anyway, I still haven't started a career mode, just played a handful of exhibition matches against various Serie A teams, usually juve. Played a few matches against Sassuolo. Spoiler, I lost.
I need help with my midfield, this shit is annoying me. I'm playing something like:
I've got all 3 of my midfielders set as CM's with Nainggolan as the most advanced CM, Brozovic as the LCM and Gagliardini or Vecigod as the RCM. But even though Nainggolan is the most forward of my midfielders, he is always the fucking deepest when I'm in possession, and the RCM is always the most advanced Whenever I've made space for a midfielder to shoot, it's always my fucking RCM instead of my most advanced CM. When i take a goal kick, it's Nainggolan (the most forward CM) who waits at the edge of the box to get the short goal kick. When I take corners, I've got both my CB's selected as "players to join attack" because they've got good heading stats obviously. But fucking Nainggolan is back at the halfway line defending instead of hanging around outside the box to shoot.
How do I fix this shit?
And I don't get how the players average score actually factors into their performance on the pitch, if it does at all. For example, if you set Nainggolan to AM, his overall is 80. If you set him as CM, it's 85. I guess it's just saying he's more suited to playing CM than AM? Or will he actually be worse if he plays AM? Surely not.
