You guys know that I`m mostly active in the transfer threads on FIF. Frankly, after seeing each year what he has done for Roma, I wanted him here
badly. I used to always envy the smart moves Roma made thanks to him, so I cannot think of a better [available] director that knows Italian Football so well.
We managed to get this man that knows how to DEAL, so a a very warm
BENVENUTO WALTER!
I only hope he has the biggest power and decision making, is responsible for the strategy because
Sabatini has that VISION which Ausilio is lacking. Ausilio may be a good purchase manager <because he's a lousy seller>, but Sabatini is top notch in my books.
>>> FACTS & FIGURES
Sabatini has shown time and time again his ability to unearth players and spin a big profit on them years down the line. While at Lazio, Sabatini signed full backs Alexander Kolarov and Stephan Lichsteiner for a combined 1.8 million euros before selling them for a combined €33 million (Kolarov €23 million to Manchester City, Lichsteiner €10 million to Juventus). At his next club, his finest piece of business was acquiring an unknown Javier Pastore for €6.5 million from Huracan before selling him two years later to Paris Saint Germain for €43 million.
His best work however was done while at Roma. In the summer of 2011, Sabatini was hired by James Pallotta to replace Daniele Prade as Roma's sporting director. Over the course of three years, he rebuilt Roma and orchestrated the near-complete removal of all of the side's below-average players that carried high wages, previously brought in from the Franco Sensi era.
Erik Lamela was signed for €17 million and sold for €35 million, Marquinhos was signed for a mere €1.5 million before being sold on to PSG for €31.4 million. Miralem Pjanic was brought in from Olympique Lyon for €11 million and left last summer to Juventus for €32 million. Mehdi Benatia was signed for €10 million and sold for €30 million. Moreover, he played a key role in the signings of Radja Nainggolan and Diego Perotti for the club.
From those listed above alone, Sabatini made a combined initial outlay of €47.8 million and made a grand profit of €156.6 million.
:datass: Good luck Walter!
