Still don’t think you guys fully understand why he left. The basis of a relationship is based on trust, if promises are made they have to be kept.
goes on to proceed with stuff that is untrue
In the first season Dzeko was a specific request of Conte’s….looking back now I’m certain we would have won the league that 1st year as well had we got him.
Following season Tonali deal was ready…Suning pulled the plug. We ended up filling the squad with Vidal, Darmian and Kolarov. Now people will deem these were Conte’s requests but what would you guys’ requests have been with a 5 million budget?
For example, Tonali was all Ausilio and Marotta. Darmian was also a Marotta purchase.
Conte wanted Kolarov, Vidal and Kumbulla. We pulled the plug on Kumbulla. I don't see you mentioning him there, probably because he proved to be a flop, at least for Roma's 4 man defense.
Conte wanted Smalling as well, to replace Skriniar, as an alternative to Milenkovic. Because Conte was aware that we had to sell players.
Conte wanted to get rid of Diego Godin, one of the biggest reasons why we rallied to 2nd spot (at the last matchday, people pretend that because Juventus lost 9 points in 3 games and that Atalanta and Lazio imploded towards the end that it was some spectacular feat) and the EL final, which wouldn't have happened under Conte if the fixtures were in between the ones in the league.
Conte was happy to see Vidal coming at the expense of Tonali.
Conte was happy to see us get rid of Skriniar, Eriksen, Sanchez and Lautaro as well, but it didn't happen for several reasons. Why do you think Lautaro's contract deal was stalled so much?
Fast forward to January Conte specifically made a request to get De Paul for the following season. Marotta agreed to the deal, Suning pulled the plug. Looking back now once again Conte was right he was the missing piece. Then season ends, we’re champions Suning say don’t expect reinforcements and oh Hakimi will be sold. Back to square one.
Conte did not request Rodrigo De Paul. The guy was on Ausilio's radar for ages and Conte even rejected him in his first transfer window.
Udinese rejected our loan offer, but Conte didn't really want him. Conte actually made a specific request for.... Eder! The midfielder he wanted was Wijnaldum, but for the end of the season. He didn't make a request for a midfielder.
Conte also welcomed Roma's offer of Dzeko for Sanchez/Eriksen at the time, but didn't throw much of a tantrum to push a deal.
The De Paul stuff resurfaced again after Conte left, exactly because Conte didn't want him. But he ended up with Atletico because at the moment we were quite broke and made this Hakan deal.
And the only way we'd go for De Paul in that January window was by selling Eriksen, who was still a training cone and someone to be humiliated with 45 second cameos.. before him and Perisic saved our Scudetto run...
Promises that were made got broken which then becomes a matter of principle. I do think even he regrets leaving us but if he stayed it would have meant Suning can do whatever and get away with it
This is the only part that's true, but those promises are not the ones you showed. The promises that didn't happen were because:
- We delayed a lot on Lukaku and he didn't accept anyone else.
- Covid hit us, so we could only come up with Hakimi, before Suning collapsed.
- We couldn't sell all the players he wanted out. Thank fuck for that.
So why Conte left?
Because he realized that he'd still not make much in Europe and this time this would look really really bad after 3rd and 4th spot.
Because he understood that after a big sale and cost cutting, we couldn't be able to fill his ego with big expenditure.
Because he comprehended that the level of difficulty in Serie A would increase this season.
In short, because he was a coward. And he managed to milk money out of his cowardice in a typical fashion.
