Ceferin is the Godfather to one of Agnelli’s daughters and decided to contact Agnelli’s wife to ask if she could get the Bianconeri President to call him back.
When the UEFA President was almost halfway to his office, Agnelli returned his call.

The newspaper reveals Agnelli continued to ‘reassure Ceferin that everything was fine’

I thought this would have been obvious, wouldn't it have been better for Serie A and Uefa to have people in charge who aren't also presidents elsewhere? like Agnelli with Juventus for example?

A great idea would have been that Angelli can decide to take Juventus elsewhere and for Inter to remain in both Serie A & Uefa and never would have been one of those founding members, would have made Serie A better actually. The Serie A referees can join him as well, free of charge.

We have always said that Juventus should play in their own league with their referees.

Now it might happen.

Scottish football going that way anyway. This gives those two clubs a chance. Orrrrr.... They could just become two awful clubs there.

Mid-table at best realistically

It's not the same... Even though I think what they're planning with the new format is stupid.

They're rumoured to be giving out two wildcard spots based on coefficients. This is not the same as a closed league with 20 or whatever clubs.

You still have to earn your way into the competition.

Yeah. The coefficient point BS is just that, BS. That echoes the privilege stuff the Super league tried to bring in. It's not technically the same but pretty close.

But in general, you earn your place in the sun by winning. By merit. By playing well enough. That's the core of European football and its continental competitions.

The historical-merit places is awful. But it was SL teams who pushed for that too. Remember Agnelli was one of the biggest proponents for new CL format.

Have no problem wanting to join, but again they should have to earn it. Starting in Championship seems more appropriate.

Interesting article in The Guardian on 5 things to save football, though geared to EPL some good things. Another article , in The Guardian, cites Perez saying ManCity lead the EPL backtrack.

Interesting chronology of the Super League posted in the NY Times today.

Repercussions of this plot are far from over: Serie A clubs can sue Agnelli

Serie A clubs can sue Andrea Agnelli who negotiated the entry of an investment fund incompatible with the Super League, while plotting the new European elite tournament.

Agnelli was one of the leading architects of the Super League and was supposed to be its vice president.

He stepped down as ECA President after the Super League was announced on Sunday, but he now finds himself in an embarrassing situation both in Europe and Italy.

UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin called him a liar, and the relationship between the do has dramatically collapsed.

Things don’t look any better for Agnelli domestically.

The Old Lady’s President was one of the members of the commission that negotiated the entry of investment fund CVC Capital Partners in the Lega Serie A.

The agreement would be worth €1.2 billion, but the deal collapsed as Agnelli reportedly changed his mind on the project. Why?

Because apparently, CVC Capital Partners wanted to include a clause in the deal that would prevent Serie A clubs from backing any other European competition that would have decreased the value of Serie A.

Serie A has then lost potential financing of €1.2 billion, and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Italian clubs could decide to sue the Old Lady’s Chairman.

A Lega Serie A meeting is scheduled for today.

Agnelli will turn us against them also and point out Inter were there too.

Not a viable argument, as Inter were not involved with the rejection of CVC Capital.

If this is true, Agnelli is way beyond being a power mad, corrupt yet shrewd business man. He is evil.

Can Uefa just ban Juve (and Real) from UCL for the next years?

Apparently no sanctions for the clubs involved

Good move by UEFA to not try to stamp their authority as they won this battle already.

What's ridiculous is that some clubs go out and say "we were against it" as if anyone had ever asked them to begin with. In reality I can imagine the opposite, many wanted to join but weren't wanted there.

Probably only Bayern, Dortmund and PSG were really invited but didn't join.
