Look at all those draws we had. The vast majority of them were because we couldn't defend our lead late in the game. This season we were rarely the team that chased an equalizer to escape defeat.

That's exactly his point though... rather than keeping on the pressure to extend our lead (defedning via attack) we go all conservative, take off attacking players for defenders and give up late goals..

If that really is what he meant to say (which I doubt), then it's the wrong choice of words, cuz "avoiding defeat" doesn't make sense in this context.

Since when is keeping the pressure to extend the lead the same thing as avoiding defeat?

You can't speak of avoiding defeat when you're in the lead & two steps further than your opponent. You're winning the game! Our opponents were trying to "avoid defeat", not us! & that's a position we've rarely found ourselves in, this season.

DM along Motta/Cambiasso, much different than being DM alone with an idiot as Jonathan to cover

JZ isn't a better RM/RWB than Johnny anymore I'm sorry ,he is still good at defending though,better than Kuz...so he can stay back as a DM to cover the empty wings when Johnny and Nagatomo go forward.

Taider is not a DM (maybe he'll be that someday, but right now his positioning needs to get better), for those that don't know that. I'm sure Kuz will do well enough. The exclusion of Zanetti is not surprising, but still, we won't know the lineup until the game starts.

So stop bitching and wait. In my opinion there is no lineup under Mazzarri that would make me feel good about some game, so I know you guys would bitch in any case.

Taider is not DM and Zanetti was never really good at that position. Kuzmanovic starting is totally expected, or another scenario could had been Hernanes as DM and Alvarez or Guarin as RCM.

As much as I'd like Zanetti to play, we have to win this game to qualify to EL, and to do so we need to attack from the first minute. Zanetti doesn't attack much anymore, he's more a defensive player now. I only hope we take the lead and score many goals soon so he'll be able to get several minutes.

We don't need a DM. Why the hell are we playing with 3 CBs if we needed a DM? Thts the point of three man defense in general, so that that team doesn't use much defensive minded midfeilder. All they need to to is cover space and run. Taider is perfect for that.

Mazarri has been using a DM so he wants one. And the whole point of 3 man defense is to attack a lot from the wings, but that leaves us exposed and a CB usually has to move to one side to cover the wing back. That's why you need a DM to cover the center while the CB are out of position.

Wrong. Mazzari himself said, "If we want to switch to 4 men defense we need a DM". Cambi is more like a defensive minded b2b in this formation, and we do NOT have a pure DM.
