Again the assumption seems to be that whenever branca made a good deal he was instructed to do so and when he does a bad one it was himselfe making the decision.

That's the double standard in this forum. Browse trough my posts, i said this in the summer, will say it again.

Branca is the scapegoat in this team. When good transfer is made, someone else made it, when bad one is made, it's Brancas transfer. Rarely who gives the man credit where is due.

I think we should keep doing that. It's a FIF thing.

Stop being so rational, yo.

If we truly are hiring coaches and not supporting them (which I've read on both sides of the Branca argument), we really are a bunch of stupid cunts.

And sadly that is the case. We clearly publicly didn't support Gasperini, we publicly didn't support Benitez. We didn't get who Ranieri asked for.

Like I said a while ago, when you hire a coach, that's obviously a show of faith in him already. So why hire him, if you don't have any faith in him (e.g. Gasperini)

mou wanted carvalho and branca got him Lucio

You've hit the nail on the head.

Mourinho identified exactly the type of player we needed at Inter - bear in mind this wasn't some kind of REVOLUTION, we've been playing Cordoba/Samuel/Chivu/Materazzi for like 2-3 years by this point, and drop Chivu and that's like 6 years, all of which during Branca worked at Inter.

The player Mourinho originally identified was not available, and they worked together to find a suitable replacement.

So in those 6 years, Branca didn't once think we could do with a ball playing defender, Mourinho comes along, convinces him he's wrong, and all of a sudden its now the done thing at Inter.

Point. In. Hand. Branca could have rectified that any point in the 6 years leading up to when Mourinho was our manager, but he didnt.

He makes me think of some kind of blind but very fast marathon runner. Put him in the right direction, he'll do a great job. If you don't, then he'll end up in the middle of nowhere running around like a headless chicken

like I've said 100 times

I give him full credit when he works with the coaches. When there's someone there to say 'hey, wanca, we need X or someone like X'.

When he's left to do his own thing, not so good.

I think this is a good insight to how Blanca works. He has a great business mind but not the best football mind. So do we need someone constantly telling him that his visions of players for the team are wrong? (Johnny, forlan).

...where did pereira come from, surely branca and his 'friendship' with Porto helped out but was it his idea?

I dont know where Pereira came from. I mean I think on a management level they knew we needed a new full back, but I can believe that Strama identified him.

I would point out that just because I feel that Branca identifies targets poorly for what we need and signs bad players does NOT mean we sign good players when someone ELSE identifies them. The first season under Mourinho clearly we signed some bad players. Same with Arnautovic. Same, CURRENTLY!! (emphasis on that) with Pereira if he was a Strama choice.

But I feel Branca's performance is significantly better when given someone to work with.

Yup, otherwise he goes for "the next so and so". Pereira is player I like and has put in some good games so far, he not exactly a defending player but he runs a lot and most defiantly adds to our game.
I didn't know people thought he was a bad signing...

You cannot leave your director isolated to decide who he buys, no director can be successful with that. He has to work with the coach and the president. So I would blame the system, if we let Branca decide whom to buy on his own, coz that will NEVER work.

Anyone who thinks Branca has free reign to just make any purchases or sales he wants does not understand how businesses work period. Sporting directors always run their plans of action by the manager and club board; no transfer decision is solely his without the backing of the board or manager. Branca is a scapegoat for when a transfer does not pan out.
