Dungeon crawlers like King's Field will always exist as those are a fairly niche games, they were like that in the 90s too. But games like those you listed in the previous post used to be prestigious, big-budget AAA games back then, and nowadays they are indie releases.
FromSoft were incredibly lucky to have caught the momentum when livestreams became a thing. They owe 99% of their popularity to websites like twitch, had that not been a thing they would've been making low-budget games that never got on anyone's radar to this day. One Demon Souls barely cracked 1m sold copies on PS3 back then.
