I don't get it.
When Leicester had a fantastic, albeit totally unrepeatable, season and won the PL, everybody raved about how thrilling English football is, but now that Atalanta has been one of the best sides in Italy for two consecutive seasons the same people seem to have mixed feelings about the orobici playing CL football next year.
In my book, they deserved to be there more than us, milan, and Roma combined.
Kudos to them.

Some people want to stick with history and tradition. But history is being made every day, and clubs like Atalanta, Leicester, etc. are allowed to make their own now.

Chelsea started with it in 2003. Today they have history more than then. I share your opinion, and Atalanta played the best football out of them, us, Roma, Milan, Lazio, etc.

I have a problem with rube though. I think that they didn't play shit against Torino, Roma and Atalanta only to screw Inter and Milan.

They certainly would have liked to screw us over (because they know that every year without CL money makes the gap between them and those who are left behind widen). However, I impute their recent results mainly to the lack of motivations they experienced after Ajax knocked them out of CL. They had nothing to play for, and it showed in all their games (including the one against us; we could have been 3-0 up at half time had we not been our usual selves)

If anything, Empoli should be mad at them, considering that Genoa would have been relegated had juve not sold them the game as part of the Sturaro deal.

Anyway, just stumbled upon this little gem on facebook.

"Serie A The Movie" indeed delivers some gems.

Also, this is another worthy representation of how the "race" for the CL spots ended:

Meanwhile, Serie B update: despite Chievo's relegation, Veneto as region will keep a representative in Serie A next season.

Cittadella-Verona is the playoff final.

Skriniar and D'Ambrosio were incredibly decisive for Inter in particular moments, they surely deserve some credit.

We already have Marotta and most likely gonna have Conte soon, so an eventual arrival of Leonardo and also Maldini would make us the real Internazionale. Truly brothers of the world.

The 3 points we gave Genoa were part of the Romero deal actually.
The Sturaro deal happened long before the match against Genoa and no one knew back then that we would be in a position to give away points.

But apart from that I would put our recent form down to the lack of motivation and Allegri's decision to to give primavera kids playing time.

Match fixing is a cause of relegation you know....

Actually, of course you know.

According to gazzetta, both Leonardo and Gattuso will leave bbilan today: the former will resign, while Gattuso Is apparently going to tell the management that he has decided to leave and it's unclear whether he will resign or try to reach an agreement for a golden handshake.

And the mad thing is that I'm kinda serious. Also bring Cambiasso and Materazzi. Imagine Skriniar learning from Godin, Maldini and Materazzi. Overkill.

I don't think Skriniar could learn much from Materazzi at all, they are very different types of defenders. Skriniar is the surgical scalpel , Matrix is a sledgehammer.

So apparently it's official, Gattuso has resigned.

- - - Updated - - -

Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso and director of sport Leonardo will quit today because CEO Ivan Gazidis is downsizing their ambitions, it’s reported.

There was a meeting between Gazidis and Gattuso on Monday evening in which they came to the mutual decision it was best to part ways this summer.

The tactician still has another two years on his contract, but is reportedly prepared to leave behind 90 per cent of the salary he’d be owed in order to aid a peaceful transition with the club he represented for so many years as a player.

Director of sport Leonardo is also walking away and Paolo Maldini could well follow in a complete revolution of the staff.

According to news agency Ansa, Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and more, the reasons are that former Arsenal chief Gazidis is downscaling Milan ambitions and costs to help meet Financial Fair Play requirements.

It is also a different approach to running the club after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

The focus would no longer be on trying to sign experienced players, but focusing on youth they can purchase cheap and then sell on at a profit.

There have also been suggestions in the Italian media that Milan could accept a plea bargain with UEFA over their FFP violations, taking a year out of European competition to wipe the slate clean.

The Rossoneri would’ve fought considerably harder if they had qualified for the Champions League, but seem content to miss out on the Europa League if it means removing the threat of a future exclusion over their heads.

The search is on for a new Coach and names mentioned include Lazio’s Simone Inzaghi, Marco Giampaolo of Sampdoria and Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim.

So they get the punishment they wanted?

I agree with you that they are different defenders but I think Materazzi can learn every defender something. If it's not on the mental level he could learn them everything about positioning, reaction etc.

That better not mean wiping the slate clean of the hundreds of millions of negative spend. Because if taking a year out of the fucking Europa League was an option that we could have used to avoid the settlement agreement shit then we must truly be run by absolute turds. Not that that would be a surprise.

I agree Milan deserve nothing but shit but not seeing them or Roma in the CL next season feels weird. I'm not sure how Atalanta going to the CL will raise profile for Serie A. It's going to be a bloodbath when they get drawn with Real Madrid, City, Barca or Bayern. The equivilent will be like Lazio but at least they have a huge fanbase and history.

Let's not forget they are playing at Mapei which is a shit stadium on its own.

But it's not a bloodbath or bad for Serie A's image when Roma ship seven goals in a match? I think Guz nailed it – people love a fairytale, especially when they play as well as Atalanta do.

Atalanta also topped their Europa League group ahead of Lyon and Everton two seasons ago and pushed Dortmund all the way in the knockout stage. (Admittedly Dortmund and Everton were having poor seasons). So I wouldn't be so quick to count them out.

Why is everyone happy Atalanta made it to CL ahead of Milan? I rather see Milan play in the CL as they have the prestige to add profile for Serie A and it will be fun to see Milan fans dreams crushed when they see their team get their asses served by more elite clubs.

Atalanta getting spanked in the groups is only sad and pathetic for Italian football. They couldn't get past Copehegen in EL qualifers FFS.

I beg to differ man. Serie A needs a team like Atalanta in CL. They play good football, better than us, Milan, and Roma combined like some already pointed out. They even play better football than Napoli and Juventus to me. Enough of these typical snail paced grandpa football playing Italian teams in Europe. It's fucking embarrassing. Modern day European football doesn't have a place for teams like Milan. Arsenal struggled in EPL, but ran circles around Milan while pissing straight into their mouth blindfolded says everything about the quality of football played by these so called prestigious Italian teams.

As it stands today, I wouldn't trust fucking Milan or Roma to take on the likes of Barcelona, Liverpool, Man City, or Bayern Munich. They'll only end up getting butt whipped 0-6 home and away. Atalanta though, might cause problems for these teams similar to Ajax causing problems to the big boys this season.
