Aside footwork, Vicario also has high ball syndrome, not terrible like Donnarumma but not good.

I don't see any reason we would regret Vicario or Di Gregorio, they are all good keepers and will be adequate for most top clubs.

But that's about it, adequate. They're not special, there's no shortage of supply of such kind of keepers. We may regret not pushing harder for Donnaruma when he was 15, or not accepting 50% sales on clause for Trubin. But Vicario and Di Gregorio? Come on. Onana was a far more special keeper, and we don't regret letting him go.

Sure, Sommer is a better GK than Vicario. But Sommer will leave the club soonish because he is old.

Vicario could've been our primary GK for 8 seasons minimum. That is the my main concern, we are just prolonging our GK problem.

The point is if it's not Vicario or Di Gregorio, then we will find someone else. They are not the type of GKs that are hard to come by. If you have 20m, you can easily find someone at that level.

If we could take Di Gregorio for 10m, it would be too good to pass. But it's not the case.

We don’t have a GK problem, having a problem indicating that the current is not up to snap, that isn’t really the case.

You can say we have a long term challenge but that isn’t really the same thing…

Also neither of those are anything special so there no need for rushing out getting them, you can easily wait one or two seasons and see if something more worthwhile comes along instead of tiring you up on a gk that is of lesser quality then the one your currently have.

People are making way to much fuss out of it.

It’s either youth factor or investment to sell for big money but we even have someone to consider for next 2 or 3 years (Stankovic) and I don’t think we can sell Italian GK for huge profiit.

The position isn’t a place where teams normally pay big money or replace all that frequently without very good reasons even if something better is out there. So potential in profit is always somewhat limited on that position. You would need to find one in a generation and honestly not likely to happen.

Those you replace when it’s due time for long term and not really before because first choice generally plays majority of games, it’s not a position we should spend a dime on until it’s strictly necessary as we have far more pressing concerns (like on the bench for attack and midfield, plus finding long term replacement for the central defend) so spending on long term gk replacement isn’t currently the best investment we currently can make.

At this level you are obliged to have an overall look and aim for the best.

It also depends on the market dynamics. Vicario & Trubin went last year, Di Gregorio & Bento go this year.

That's because you may not get such talent under 20M every year (with great potential and resale value). Plus, you want to offer 1 year to adapt to the league, language, tactics, etc.

In Dutch media (and German also apperently, Marlon Irlbracher from Sky, don’t know how reliable he is?) some sources claim we are interested in Feyenoord goalie Timon Wellenreuther as second goalie. He’s available for 2 mln due a clause in his contract. He had a great part in Feyenoord securing the championship last season and Cup this season.

Would be a good choice if we are searching for a second goalie for the years to come imo. They state Roma and PSV ( as 1st goalie) are interested too.

I'm sure with all these options available, we aren't going for Martinez.

I wouldnt place Okoye in the first 3 choices given the chance. Not a bad keeper overall with great reflexes but always had the feeling he is very shaky. We are not really pressured for a new keeper so I doubt we are ready to invest too much into one right now.

It don't matter in how many of them are we interested. The one thats gonna come here, will be the one that costs the least... So, Martinez and Okoye are good guesses... Also, don't be shockd if they just decide to buy Audero.... Bento is already probably out of the reach.

I disagree. We always invested in top keepers without fail. We have a first choice in Sommer and Audero will not be his succesor but might fill in the second spot a while longer untill we find the right replacement.

Why do we have the need of buying a keeper this season already? I think it’s a given Sommer will stay number 1, and someone along the lines of Consigli/Montipo or maybe loaning someone like Turati if possible would be more than enough the coming season. Why not just wait until next summer to splash out on a proper future number 1? We should use our resources more wisely I think.

We don't have a need to buy a keeper. But if there's a chance to buy one, to get someone to learn the ropes as the second keeper, to be a future 1st, why not do it? We need to ultimately replace Sommer anyway in the future, and not in a distant future.

You learn by playing not by watching from the bench, you can be absolutely certain that even if we got someone to stand second. It is an almost guarantee that the moment that first spot becomes available a new more experienced one would be brought in as replacement and not given to the “future” keeper simply because of lack of experience and action.

The only way such a player is ever handed over the gloves is if first choice drop forms or get injured doing the season, otherwise there is little chance that keeper will ever become other than a bench warmer.

The main issue with buying talented GK is they don’t get time to play unless you let them stay at the parent club, it’s very different from any other positions where talents can be subbed in and/or played in less challenging matches to gain the necessary playing time

So there just little point in getting one, before it’s due time.

We aren't going to sign a keeper who hasn't been a first GK in his respective team. Bento is one for his club, Martinez is one for his club etc etc. There is enough first GK experience in all our potential candidates.

We will most probably start with Sommer next season anyway. The 2nd keeper will maybe play Coppa Italia, maybe some CL league phase matches etc. So the 2nd keeper will most probably play. Bringing in a guy means getting that guy used to the club, the team, the coach. How you train at Inter how everyone behaves, what is expectation level. All that kind of stuff without having to perform from the first minute by having to win every match, two times a week.

It’s no good starting a guy in two years time who hardly got to play in that period, he would be shaky and out of match form… It wasn’t a huge issue getting Sommer, Handanovic etc. to perform their first season, the idea a gk needs to be slowly introduced is just an odd idea when looking at what we done for quite some time. Sommer is likely not going anywhere the next two seasons.

I much rather have a gk who played as starting gk and not knowing the team then one who hardly played for 1-2 seasons but know the team.
